In the ensuing interactive debate, Cuba, Nord-Sud XXI and the World Council of Churches made interventions. It was reaffirmed that climate change was one of the most serious challenges and that it had negative effects on human rights, in particular on the right to life and food and the right to self-determination.

The Working Group drew upon the expertise of UNCHR, ILO and IOM as well as of the World Council of Churches to develop a questionnaire sent to all Governments to chart the present situation of migrants’ rights and to request measures towards the ratification of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

158. The Working Group expressed its gratitude to ILO, UNESCO, WHO, UNDP, the World Bank and the World Council of Churches for their constructive contributions in the plenary meetings and for the consultations and briefings they had organized as parallel events.
