The defendant or his or her representative has the right to challenge and question the witnesses (Code of Criminal Procedures, arts. 173 and 221).
كما يحق للمتهم أو وكيله أن يناقش شهود الاتهام ويوجه لهم الأسئلة (المواد 173، 221/أصول جزائية).

3.2 The author further alleges a violation of article 14, paragraph 3 (e), in that he had insufficient opportunity to examine, or have examined, the witnesses against him at trial, and to obtain the attendance and examination of witnesses on his behalf under the same conditions as witnesses against him.
3-2 ويدعي صاحب البلاغ أيضاً حدوث انتهاك للفقرة 3(ﻫ) من المادة 14، لأنه لم تتح لـه فرصة كافية لأن يناقش شهود الاتهام بنفسه أو من قبل غيره، ولأن يحصل على الموافقة على استدعاء شهود النفي واستجوابهم بذات الشروط المطبقة على شهود الاتهام.

The author alleges that during these proceedings he was not presumed innocent; that he was not permitted to contact his American counsel (although he was represented by local counsel); that he was not given adequate time and facilities for the preparation of his defence; that he was not permitted to cross-examine witnesses against him or to call witnesses on his own behalf.
