The present report has been prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 57/163, in which the Secretary-General was requested to submit a report to the Assembly at its fifty-eighth session on the implementation of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development and the twenty-fourth special session of the General Assembly.

The Assembly also requested the Secretary-General to keep the implementation of its resolution 41/11 of 27 October 1986 and subsequent resolutions on the matter under review and to submit a report to the Assembly at its fifty-second session, taking into account, inter alia, the views expressed by Member States.
