On 24 September, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Moualem confirmed that Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic had agreed to restore full diplomatic relations by dispatching their respective ambassadors back to their posts.
