In particular, the Government reiterates the commitment it made in the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and Agrarian Situation to enhance social participation with a variety of information and education tools focusing on the protection of human rights, the renewal of the political culture and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

8. The peace negotiations continued and, since April 1995, the parties have been discussing the item " Socio-economic aspects and Agrarian Situation " .
٨ - واستمرت مفاوضات السلام، وابتداء من شهر نيسان/أبريل ١٩٩٥، ناقش الطرفان البند المعنون " الجوانب الاجتماعية - الاقتصادية وحالة الزراعة " .

It covers the period from 1 January to 30 June 1996, during which the peace process took a significant step forward with the signing, on 6 May 1996, of the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and Agrarian Situation.

It also calls on the parties to arrive at an agreement on the item entitled “Socio-economic aspects and Agrarian Situation”, which is at present under discussion in the negotiating process, and to continue their efforts to conclude as soon as possible an agreement on a firm and lasting peace.

14 - تؤكد أهمية التنفيذ التام للاتفاق المتعلق بهوية وحقوق السكان الأصليين() بوصف ذلك مفتاحا لمكافحة التمييز وتوطيد السلام وتحقيق المساواة في غواتيمالا، وتشدد على ضرورة التنفيذ التام للاتفاق المتعلق بالجوانب الاجتماعية والاقتصادية وحالة الزراعة() بوصفه وسيلة لمعالجة الأسباب الجذرية للصراع المسلح؛

Requests the United Nations system in Guatemala to continue to monitor and report annually, utilizing the methodology and indicators developed with the Mission, on the implementation of the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and Agrarian Situation as part of the national human development report of the United Nations Development Programme;
20 - تطلب إلى مؤسسات منظومة الأمم المتحدة العاملة في غواتيمالا أن تواصل رصد تنفيذ الاتفاق المتعلق بالجوانب الاجتماعية والاقتصادية وحالة الزراعة وأن تقدم سنويا، في إطار تقرير برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي عن التنمية البشرية على الصعيد الوطني، تقريرا عن تنفيذ الاتفاق مستخدمة في ذلك المنهجية والمؤشرات التي وضعتها مع البعثة؛

137. Thus the Committee is of the opinion that the issue of land ownership and redistribution should be closely monitored, in the light of the implementation both of article 14 of the Constitution, which provides for the expropriation of fallow land on private estates, and of the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and Agrarian Situation.
