Support was also given for a subregional consultative meeting organised by the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands (ACSAD) in Damascus (9-11 April 1997) and the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in Cairo to explore options for subregional cooperation through cooperative arrangements such as the establishment of a Western Asian Network to Combat Desertification.
