As a consequence of UNEP support, indigenous peoples representatives attended four of the regional consultation meetings and the eighth Global Civil Society Forum and Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum at its twenty-fourth session, attesting the improved engagement of indigenous peoples and their communities in the policy development. To date, eight indigenous peoples organizations are accredited to UNEP.
