In 2008, OHCHR organized an expert meeting on children and migration, in cooperation with the Government of Mexico, and conducted a public information campaign highlighting human rights concerns related to immigration detention as part of the " Dignity and Justice for Detainees Week " .

For the sixtieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in December 2008, the High Commissioner for Human Rights designated a " Dignity and Justice for Detainees Week " , calling on all partners to pay special attention to the civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights of persons deprived of their liberty in prisons and other places of detention.
فبمناسبة الذكرى السنوية الستين لصدور الإعلان العالمي لحقوق الإنسان التي حلَّت في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2008، عينت المفوضة السامية لحقوق الإنسان " أسبوعاً للكرامة والعدالة للمحتجزين " ، ودعت جميع الشركاء إلى إعارة اهتمام خاص للحقوق المدنية والثقافية والاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية للمحرومين من حريتهم الموجودين في السجون وغيرها من أماكن الاحتجاز.
