1. The role of the Ad Hoc Inter-sessional Working Group on Transport and Atmosphere was to serve as a preparatory meeting for the ninth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development and to facilitate the Commission in achieving tangible results on the issues of transport and protection of the atmosphere.

139. At its 11th meeting, on 23 February, on the proposal of the Chairman, the Committee decided to take note of the report of the Secretary-General on energy and protection of the atmosphere (E/C.13/1996/CRP.2) (see chap. I, sect. C).

The Committee on New and Renewable Sources of Energy and on Energy for Development at its first session (7-18 February 1994) requested the Secretary-General to prepare a report on energy and protection of the atmosphere for consideration by the Committee at its second session. 1/ This report has been prepared in response to the Committee's request.
١ - طلبت اللجنة المعنية بمصادر الطاقة الجديدة والمتجددة وبتسخير الطاقة ﻷغراض التنمية في دورتها اﻷولى )المعقودة في الفترة ٧ - ١٨ شباط/فبراير ١٩٩٤( إلى اﻷمين العام أن يعد تقريرا عن الطاقة وحماية الغلاف الجوي كيما تنظر فيه اللجنة في دورتها الثانية)١(. وقد أعد هذا التقرير استجابة لطلب اللجنة.

17. At the same meeting, the Chairman proposed a correction to the organization of work, as contained in document E/C.13/1996/L.1, namely, to add a subparagraph (d) to item 4, to read " (d) Energy and protection of the atmosphere " .
١٧ - وفي الجلســة نفسهــا، اقتـــرح الرئيس تصويبـــا لتنظيـــم أعمـــال الـــدورة المبين في الوثيقة E/C.13/1996/L.1، يتمثل في إضافة فقرة فرعية )د( الى البند ٤ نصها كما يلي: )د( " الطاقة وحماية الغلاف الجوي " .
