2. The present report presents the activities carried out by the Statistics Division and the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics during 2013 to comply with Statistical Commission decision 44/109.

The report will provide a summary of the recent activities undertaken by the Statistics Division and the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics under the umbrella of the Global Gender Statistics Programme, including the online dissemination of a minimum set of gender indicators and the implementation of the Evidence and Data for Gender Equality Initiative.

Finally, the report describes the workplan and strategies implemented by the Statistics Division and the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics to strengthen the global gender statistics programme, including a new project on evidence and data for gender equality (EDGE), executed jointly with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women).

At its forty-third session, in 2012, the Commission took note, inter alia, of the work carried out by the Statistics Division and the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics in 2011 on: (a) the review of gender statistics programmes in countries; (b) the minimum set of gender indicators; and (c) the development of manuals and guidelines on gender statistics.
