1. At its 6th meeting, on 8 November 2006, the Working Group examined a report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire, introduced by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General.

20. At that meeting, the Group also discussed the report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835).

The present report, prepared pursuant to the provisions of Security Council resolution 1612 (2005), is presented to the Council as the second country report on the situation of children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire.

4. As indicated in my first report on children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835), children are among those who continue to bear the burden of the political crisis in the country.

32. As indicated in my previous report on the situation of children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835), a major concern remains the absence of an administration of justice system in areas controlled by the Forces nouvelles.

ONUCI continued to discuss the report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835) with the leaders of the Forces nouvelles and pro-Government militia groups, bringing to their attention the many concerns expressed by the Secretary-General, as well as his appreciation for their commitment to the implementation of the action plans to end the use of child soldiers.

I urge all relevant parties, as a matter of priority, to implement the recommendations of my first report on the situation of children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835) and the subsequent conclusions and recommendations of the Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict (S/AC.51/2007/7).

The present report, prepared pursuant to Security Council resolution 1612 (2005), covers the period from October 2006 to September 2007 and follows my first report on the situation of children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835) and the subsequent conclusions and recommendations of the Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict (S/AC.51/2007/7).

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other members of the United Nations country team continue to collaborate in the implementation of key recommendations in my first report on the situation of children and armed conflict in Côte d'Ivoire (S/2006/835) and the subsequent conclusions and recommendations of the Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict (S/AC.5/2007/7).
