35. The position of Senior Coordinator for Cholera Response in Haiti (Assistant Secretary-General) is proposed to further strengthen the coordination of all United Nations entities involved in addressing the issue of Cholera in Haiti and to ensure a coherent and effective response in that regard.

In addition to the need for greater political stability and institutional integrity and development, it is critically important for Haiti and the international community to redouble efforts to improve the current humanitarian situation, in particular regarding the ongoing cholera epidemic. Eradicating Cholera in Haiti is a complex and challenging task requiring a long-term commitment on the part of Haiti and international donors.
