Requests the Committee on Science and Technology to plan both long-term and short-term measures to enable the UNCCD to provide scientific support in pursuit of operational objective 3 of The Strategy (to become a global authority on scientific and technical knowledge pertaining to desertification/land degradation and mitigation of the effects of drought);

Requests the Committee on Science and Technology to focus its work on best practices relating to decision 13/COP.9 on the following three thematic topics (other topics may be included, if needed): (a) sustainable land management technologies, including adaptation; (c) desertification, land degradation and drought and sustainable land management monitoring and assessment/research; and (d) knowledge management and decision support;

Requests the Committee on Science and Technology to review the current list of disciplines, taking into account the Proposed International Standard Nomenclature for Fields of Science and Technology as well as the lists of disciplines used by the Parties at national level, and to update the list with new disciplines, including traditional and local knowledge, know-how and practices, as needed;
