The Government has developed a strategy aimed at preventing, remedying and mitigating the effects of sexual violence in conflict areas that incorporates the Comprehensive Strategy on Combating Sexual Violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On 1 April 2009, the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo officially endorsed the Comprehensive Strategy on Combating Sexual Violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, developed in consultation with relevant ministries, non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies and the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC).
