In the light of the pertinent recommendation adopted by the World Conference, the Working Group decided to review annually the developments related to the implementation of the Programme of Action and to submit proposals to the Sub-Commission on this matter.

The Division for Sustainable Development should complement the work of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in monitoring developments related to the implementation of the intergovernmental conventions on the various aspects of sustainable development which had been agreed to in recent years.

Specifically, the Secretariat of the United Nations is requested to prepare documents on the following topics to reflect developments related to the implementation of the Treaty and the outcomes of the 1995 NPT Review and Extension Conference and the 2000 Review Conference, with a view to assuring that the purposes of the preamble and the provisions of the Treaty are being realized:
