3. Article 6 of the NPT stipulates the obligations of each of the Parties to the Treaty to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament.

Enlarging upon this to set out a core list of elements that will form an essential part of any instrument or arrangement of instruments creating the set of " effective measures relating to cessation of the arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament " that article VI of the Non-Proliferation Treaty obliges States to elaborate, the following is suggested:
٢٦ - سعيا للقيام على هذا الأساس بوضع قائمة أساسية من العناصر التي ستشكل جزءا جوهريا من أي صك أو توليفة من الصكوك تُنشئ مجموعة " التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب وبنزع السلاح النووي " ، على النحو الذي أُلزمت به الدول بموجب المادة السادسة من المعاهدة، يُقترح ما يلي:

- To fulfil with determination their nuclear disarmament obligations under article VI, to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures towards cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament.

26. Enlarging upon this to set out a core list of elements that will form an essential part of any instrument or arrangement of instruments creating the set of " effective measures relating to cessation of the arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament " that article VI of the Non-Proliferation Treaty obliges States to elaborate, the following is suggested:
٢٦- سعياً للقيام على هذا الأساس بوضع قائمة أساسية من العناصر التي ستشكل جزءاً جوهرياً من أي صك أو توليفة من الصكوك تُنشئ مجموعة " التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب وبنزع السلاح النووي " ، على النحو الذي أُلزمت به الدول بموجب المادة السادسة من المعاهدة، يُقترح ما يلي:

" Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament " .
" تتعهد كل دولة من الدول الأطراف في المعاهدة بمواصلة إجراء المفاوضات بحسن نية بشأن التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب وبنزع السلاح النووي " .

" (a) All Governments should intensify without delay their concerted and concentrated efforts for effective measures relating to the cessation of the nuclear-arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament and the elimination of other weapons of mass destruction, and for a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control.

We shall go on demanding compliance by all States parties with article VI of the NonProliferation Treaty that enshrines the following commitment: " Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament. "
وسنواصل مطالبة جميع الدول الأطراف بالامتثال للمادة السادسة من معاهدة عدم الانتشار التي تؤكد الالتزام التالي: " يتعهد كل طرف من الأطراف في المعاهدة بمواصلة إجراء المفاوضات اللازمة بحسن نية بشأن التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب وبنزع السلاح النووي " .

وتنص المادة السادسة على أنه " تتعهد كل دولة من الدول اﻷطراف في المعاهدة بمواصلة إجراء المفاوضات اللازمة بحسن نية عن التدابير الفعالة المتعلقة بوقف سباق التسلح النووي في موعد قريب وبنزع السلاح النووي ... " .

Mindful of its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons to " pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament " , the United States reaffirms its full support for the Conference on Disarmament and urges it to carry out promptly its role as the premier multilateral disarmament negotiating forum.
