In this connection, it may also wish to take into account that consideration by the Council of the above-mentioned report on the joint exploratory review of cooperation between the United Nations and the Bretton Woods institutions will take place at the resumed session of the Council.

In the period since the report of the Secretary-General on the joint exploratory review was issued in June 1998, the interaction between the Bretton Woods institutions and the United Nations at all levels has been exceptionally fruitful.

The review has also been mentioned in Council resolution 1996/43, in which the Council indicated that it looked forward to receiving the report and accompanying recommendations resulting from the exploratory review.

42. A profound change in the relationship between the United Nations and the Bretton Woods institutions towards developing an effective strategic partnership and integrated development approaches has already been amply documented, in particular in the joint exploratory review which confirmed that “a multifaceted, extensive and growing partnership” already existed.

17. The Assembly and the governing bodies of the Bretton Woods institutions, based on the conclusions of the joint exploratory review (see para. 61 below), should consider concrete areas and forms of collaboration in the field of development-related activities (paras. 86 and 87).

2. The Assembly, by paragraph 86 of Annex I to its resolution 50/227, called for an exploratory review to assess mechanisms, programmes and relationships at the field, headquarters and intergovernmental levels, with a view to identifying areas in which communication, cooperation and coordination could be improved.
٢- لقد دعت الجمعية العامة، في الفقرة ٦٨ من المرفق اﻷول لقرارها ٠٥/٧٢٢، إلى إجراء استعراض استطلاعي لتقييم اﻵليات والبرامج والعلاقات على صعيدي الميدان والمقر وعلى الصعيد الحكومي الدولي، بغية تحديد المجالات التي يمكن فيها تحسين الاتصال والتعاون والتنسيق.

In the same resolution, the Council stated that it looked forward to the report and accompanying recommendations to be prepared jointly by the United Nations and the Bretton Woods institutions on an early exploratory review to assess mechanisms, programmes and relationships at the field, headquarters and intergovernmental levels, with a view to identifying areas in which communication, cooperation and coordination could be improved.
وفي القرار ذاته، أشار المجلس إلى أنه يتطلع إلى التقرير الذي ستتشارك في إعداده اﻷمم المتحدة ومؤسسات بريتون وودز وإلى التوصيات المرفقة به، بشأن إجراء استعراض استطلاعي مبكر لتقييم اﻵليات والبرامج والعلاقات على صعيدي الميدان والمقر وعلى الصعيد الحكومي الدولي، بغية تحديد المجالات التي يمكن فيها تحسين الاتصال والتعاون والتنسيق.

The joint exploratory review is currently conducted by the United Nations (led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator in collaboration with the United Nations departments, funds and programmes), in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
