In reiterating the commitments made to me, President Assad, Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara'and Vice-Foreign Minister Walid Muallem assured the United Nations on 3 April 2005 that the second stage of the complete and full withdrawal of all Syrian troops and assets and the intelligence apparatus would be completed by 30 April at the latest.
15 - وفي تكرار لتأكيد الالتـزامات التي قطعت لي، أكد الرئيس الأسد ووزير الخارجية فاروق الشرع ونائبه وليد المعلم للأمم المتحدة في 3 نيسان/أبريل 2005 أن المرحلة الثانية من الانسحاب الكامل والتام لجميع القوات السورية والعتاد وأجهزة الاستخبارات السورية ستنجز في موعد أقصاه 30 نيسان/أبريل.

One of these briefings was presided over by Mr. Farouk Al-Shara', Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, and in others, the Secretary-General, Mr. Kofi Annan, and other high-level United Nations officials discussed developments in the Middle East. It has become clear that such briefings represent an advanced step in the way in which the Council deals with one of the most tense regions in the world.
وقد ثبت عمليا أن هذه الإحاطات، التي تحدث في إحداها وترأسها السيد فاروق الشرع نائب رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير خارجية الجمهورية العربية السورية، وفي عدد آخر منها السيد كوفي عنان، الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، وكبار المسؤولين في الأمم المتحدة، حول التطورات في الشرق الأوسط، إنما كانت خطوة متقدمة على طريق تعامل المجلس مع واحدة من أكثر مناطق التوتر في العالم.

I have the honour to transmit herewith the statement made by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, His Excellency Mr. Farouk Al-Shara, at today's 4556th meeting of the Security Council in connection with the item entitled " The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question " (see annex).
