In connection with the proposals for the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones in other regions, such as North-East Asia, one member mentioned that, in order to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone, there should not be any serious security concerns among the States concerned, as well as a minimum level of confidence.

٥ - ويود اﻷمين العام أن يوجه انتباه الدول اﻷعضاء إلى العمل الذي أنجزته هيئة نزع السلاح في دورتها الموضوعية لعام ١٩٩٩ التي تم التوصل خلالها، في جملة أمور، إلى توافق في اﻵراء حول مبادئ إنشاء مناطق خالية من اﻷسلحة النووية على أساس ترتيبات يتم التوصل إليها بحرية فيما بين دول المنطقة المعنية.

It reaffirmed its strong support for the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones on the basis of agreements freely arrived at among the States of the region concerned, such as the Treaties of Tlatelolco, Rarotonga, Pelindaba and Bangkok.
