Mr. Ahmed (Association of Former United Nations Industry and Development Experts (AFIDE)) said that the major industrialized countries were taking collective decisions and introducing drastic measures to deal with the current financial and economic crisis, while the developing countries were not fully aware of its dimensions owing to a lack of statistics and had failed to take collective action.

Mr. AHMED (Association of Former United Nations Industry and Development Experts (AFIDE)) said that, while UNIDO, in its contribution to the implementation of Agenda 21, had adjusted its policies and programmes in order to give equal consideration to economic and human development and environmental protection, there were still areas where improvements could be made in its efforts to promote sustainable industrial development.
