73. The main measures introduced by the Dominican Republic to protect persons with disabilities from Being Subjected to Torture or cruel treatment are set out in the following provisions of the Criminal Code:

Until recently, this kind of progression had not occurred in respect of the criminal justice instruments with the exception that the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was based substantially on the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Being Subjected to Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, which was finalized at the Fifth Congress, in 1975.
