27. It is the opinion of the Secretary-General, based on the experience gained by the Organization from the use of resident auditors in peacekeeping missions, that this practice should be continued and strengthened.

Following its consideration of the report of the Secretary-General on experiences gained from the use of resident auditors at peacekeeping missions (A/55/735), the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions requested the Board to review the adequacy of the resident audit function at the missions (see A/55/828 and A/55/878).

In response to General Assembly resolution 54/241 of 23 December 1999, the Secretary-General had submitted a comprehensive report (A/55/735) on the experiences learned from the use of resident auditors in peacekeeping missions, including the implications of the formula for determining the number of resident auditors required for each mission, and salary levels.
