It is indeed a privilege for me to address the General Assembly on this historic day, when the United Nations is observing the International Day of Non-Violence.

1. Decides, with effect from the sixty-second session of the General Assembly and guided by the Charter of the United Nations, to observe the International Day of Non-Violence on 2 October each year, with the International Day being brought to the attention of all people for its celebration and observance on this date;
1 - تقرر، اعتبارا من الدورة الثانية والستين للجمعية العامة، واسترشادا بميثاق الأمم المتحدة، الاحتفال باليوم الدولي للاعنف في 2 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر من كل سنة، وأن يوجه اهتمام جميع الناس إلى هذا اليوم الدولي للاحتفال به في هذا التاريخ؛

The draft resolution also requests the Secretary-General to recommend ways to assist Member States in organizing activities to commemorate the Day, to take necessary measures for the observance of the Day by the United Nations system and to keep the General Assembly informed at its sixty-third session on implementation within the United Nations system of the resolution as regards the observance of the International Day of Non-Violence.

Also at its resumed sixty-first session, in June 2007, the General Assembly decided, with effect from the sixty-second session, to observe the International Day of Non-Violence on 2 October each year and requested the Secretary-General to take, within existing resources, necessary measures for the observance by the United Nations of the International Day of Non-Violence (resolution 61/271).
قررت الجمعية العامة أيضا في دورتها الحادية والستين المستأنفة، المعقودة في حزيران/يونيه 2007، الاحتفال باليوم الدولي للاعنف في 2 تشرين الأول/أكتوبر من كل سنة، اعتبارا من الدورة الثانية والستين، وطلبت إلى الأمين العام أن يتخذ، في حدود الموارد المتاحة، ما يلزم من تدابير من أجل احتفال الأمم المتحدة باليوم الدولي للاعنف (القرار 61/271).
