In paragraph 5 of that report, the Fifth Committee recommends to the General Assembly the appointment of Mr. Kenshiro Akimoto to fill the unexpired portion of the term of office of a member who has resigned.

In another note by the Secretary-General (A/C.5/56/6/Add.1), the General Assembly was informed that the Government of Japan had nominated Mr. Kenshiro Akimoto to fill the vacant post.

The General Assembly, as recommended by the Fifth Com-mittee in paragraph 5 of its report (A/53/752), appointed Mr. Kenshiro Akimoto as a member of the United Nations Staff Pensions Committee for the remainder of a term of office beginning on 1 January 1999 and ending on 31 December 2000.
