North Korea under Kim Jong-un has invested heavily and worked hard to develop ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. Its erstwhile partners – indeed the whole world – have been given no other choice but to tighten sanctions, increase vigilance, and, in the case of the United States and its allies, develop high-tech defenses that could render North Korean offensive systems obsolete before they are even unveiled.

لقد عمل كيم يونج –اون اشياء لم يسمع بها من قبل في كوريا الشمالية مثل الاعتراف الصريح بفشل اختبار صواريخ بالاضافة الى اللعب مع ميكي ماوس المنتمي لشركة ديزني والذي يعتبر رمز للثقافة الامريكية العدوة بينما قام ببناء حدائق ترفييهية . لكن يجب على الجميع ان لا يظنوا ان ذلك هو ربيع بيونج يانج فجهود النظام لاخفاء مرة اخرى وجود نقص حاد في المواد الغذائية يظهر ان القيم الجوهرية لم تتغير بالمرة.

But such trappings will not make the transition process any easier for a young man of less than 30 in a society where veteran military chiefs retain so much power.
والواقع أن كل ملامح السلطة الرمزية انتقلت إلى كيم يونج أون بسرعة ملحوظة ــ الأمر الذي انعكس في موضعه الرسمي في مراسم الجنازة، ورئاسته للجنة العسكرية، وتوليه أعلى رتبة في الحزب الحاكم. ولكن مثل هذه المظاهر لن تعمل على تيسير عملية انتقال السلطة بالنسبة لهذا الشاب الذي لم يتجاوز الثلاثين ربيعاً بعد في مجتمع حيث يتمتع القادة العسكريون المخضرمون بقدر عظيم من القوة والسلطة.
