20. In opening, Mr. Kosa remarked that women with disabilities lacked access to essential services that were critical to the enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms. He provided a number of examples showing how women with disabilities faced double discrimination. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities set out to promote gender equality and empowerment for women with disabilities.
