26. I have provided details on the status of Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias in my previous reports on the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 (2004) and will provide a further update in my fourth semi-annual report in October 2006.

In addition to the direct call in Security Council resolution 1559 (2004) for the disarming and disbanding of Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias in Lebanon, I observed in my last report that, more broadly, the existence of armed groups defying the control of the legitimate Government is incompatible with the restoration and full respect of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and political independence of the country.
