In 2002, the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture visited Uzbekistan and issued a report containing 22 recommendations to the Government of Uzbekistan, focusing mainly on the creation of legal and procedural safeguards against the infliction of torture throughout the investigative process as well as on the inadmissibility of evidence obtained by torture (E/CN.4/2003/68/Add.2).
