ILO Convention No. 143 of 1975 concerning Migrations in Abusive Conditions and the Promotion of Equality of Opportunity and Treatment of Migrant Workers provides that a migrant who has resided legally in the territory for the purpose of employment shall not be regarded as in an irregular situation by the mere fact of the loss of his employment.

2. CMW invited Bolivia to accede to ILO Conventions No. 97 (1949) concerning Migration for Employment and No. 143 (1975) concerning Migrations in Abusive Conditions and the Promotion of Equality of Opportunity and Treatment of Migrant Workers.

The 1984 recommendations also referred to the 1975 International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention concerning Migrations in Abusive Conditions and the Promotion of Equality of Opportunity and Treatment of Migrant Workers (No. 143),3 adopted just after the adoption of the World Population Plan.

In 2010, the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW) recommended that the Government consider making the declarations provided for in articles 76 and 77 of the Convention and ratify International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 143 concerning Migrations in Abusive Conditions and the Promotion of Equality of Opportunity and Treatment of Migrant Workers.
