547. Under article 12 of the Act an Egyptian woman who marries a foreigner remains Egyptian unless she wishes to acquire her husband's nationality and is permitted to do so under the law of nationality of her husband's country.

The United Arab Emirates legislation regarding nationality, found in Federal Act No. 17 of 1972 concerning nationality and passports, as amended, provides that a woman who is a national of the State ex lege or by naturalization and who marries a person holding foreign nationality retains her nationality and does not lose it unless she has taken the nationality of her husband.

38. Under article 17, paragraph 2 of the Law, " A female citizen ex lege who acquired the nationality of her foreign husband who then dies or abandons or divorces her may regain her nationality provided she renounces the nationality of her husband.
38 - كما أتاحت المادة 2/17 " للمواطنة بحكم القانون التي اكتسبت جنسية زوجها الأجنبي ثم توفى عنها زوجها أو هجرها أو طلقها أن تسترد جنسيتها بشرط أن تتخلى عن جنسية زوجها.

4. An Egyptian man who marries a foreign women and acquires her nationality loses his Egyptian nationality, but may retain his Egyptian nationality for himself, his wife and his minor children by expressing his desire to do so. Equally, an Egyptian women whose husband has lost his Egyptian nationality does not lose her Egyptian nationality unless she expresses her desire to acquire the new nationality of her husband.
4 - في أحوال تجنس المصري بجنسية أجنبية تزول عنه الجنسية المصرية ويجوز له الاحتفاظ بالجنسية له ولزوجته وأولاده القصر إذا أعلن رغبته في ذلك كما لا يترتب على زوال الجنسية المصرية عن المصري زوالها للزوجة إلا إذا أعلنت رغبتها في دخول جنسية زوجها ويجوز لها الاحتفاظ بالجنسية المصرية أسوة بالزوج.

Article 9 of the Convention stipulates that, " if the national law of the wife causes her to lose her nationality upon a change in the nationality of her husband occurring during the marriage, this consequence shall be conditional on her acquiring her husband's new nationality " .

5. An Egyptian woman who marries a foreign man retains her nationality unless she declares her desire to acquire the nationality of her husband and has the legal right to do so. If the marriage is not valid according to Egyptian law, but is valid according to the law of the husband's country, she remains an Egyptian national (art. 12).
5 - إذا تزوجت مصرية من أجنبي تظل محتفظة بجنسيتها إلا إذا أعلنت رغبتها في دخول جنسية زوجها وكان قانونها يسمح بذلك وإذا كان عقد الزواج باطلا في أحكام القانون المصري وصحيحا في قانون الزوج ظلت مصرية (المادة 12 من القانون).
