VI. Enhancing the participation of non-governmental organizations in all areas of the United Nations system

Bearing in mind the important role of non-governmental organizations in all activities for the advancement of women and the fact that some of them, specially those from developing countries, do not enjoy consultative status with the Economic and Social Council,

In this vein, my delegation welcomes the report of the Secretary-General entitled “Arrangements and practices for the interaction of non-governmental organizations in all activities of the United Nations system”.
وعلــى هــذا المنــوال، يرحــب وفد بلدي بتقرير اﻷمين العام المعنون " الترتيبات والممارسات المتعلقة بتعامل المنظمات غير الحكومية مع جميع أنشطة منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة " .

In decision 1996/297 the Council called on the General Assembly to examine the participation of non-governmental organizations in all areas of the work of the United Nations.

When the Economic and Social Council concluded its comprehensive review of consultative arrangements between non-governmental organizations and the Council in 1996, it also adopted a decision and a Presidential Statement recommending that the General Assembly examine the broader question of the participation of non-governmental organizations in all areas of work of the United Nations.
في عام ١٩٩٦ عندما اختتـــم المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي استعراضه الشامل لترتيبات التشاور بين المنظمات غير الحكومية والمجلس، اعتمد مقررا وأصدر بيانا رئاسيا يوصيان الجمعية العامة بأن تدرس المسألة اﻷوسع المتمثلة في مشاركة المنظمات غير الحكومية في جميع مجالات عمل اﻷمم المتحدة.

I have requested the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Mr. Ahmad Kamal, to undertake informal soundings on this issue early, both with Member States and with non-governmental organizations, in order to make a proper determination on the methodology, as well as on the substantive issue of facilitating the participation of non-governmental organizations in all areas of the work of the United Nations.

While we welcome in this connection the report of the Secretary-General on arrangements and practices for the interaction of non-governmental organizations in all activities of the United Nations system, we would also like to offer some comments that we hope will enrich the current dialogue on this very important subject.

We also have before us the report of the Secretary-General on “Arrangements and practices for the interaction of non-governmental organizations in all activities of the United Nations system”.

The information used for the preparation of chapter II was collected through a questionnaire sent to 282 non-governmental organizations in all regions of the world. The organizations that received the questionnaire were also encouraged to copy and distribute the form to others working in the same field.
أما المعلومات المستخدمة في إعداد الفرع الثاني فقد جمعت عن طريق استبيان أرسل إلى ٢٨٢ منظمة غير حكومية في جميع أنحاء العالم، وجرى أيضا تشجيع المنظمات التي تلقت الاستبيان على استنساخ الاستمارة وتوزيعها على المنظمات اﻷخرى العاملة في المجال ذاته، وتم استلام ما مجموعه ١٠٥ ردود.
