The full-day meeting consisted of two panels: the morning panel, which focused on children in the judicial process, worrying trends and good practices, and the afternoon panel, which was devoted to the protection and realization of the rights of children deprived of liberty and children of incarcerated parents.

4. CRC recommended that Japan withdraw its reservation to article 37 (c) of the Convention regarding the separation of children deprived of liberty from adults.

Together with its partners in Benin and Uruguay, it met regularly with the governmental authorities of both countries in order to advocate enhancing the protection of children deprived of liberty (i.e., reforming the legislation, nominating additional judges for children and decreasing use of detention, in parallel with increasing use of alternatives to detention).
