6 October 2011, the working group pursued the development of a strategy for the period 2012-2015 for UNODC, pursuant to paragraph 4 of Commission on Narcotic Drugs resolution 54/10 and Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice resolution 20/1.

At its 48th plenary meeting, on 28 July 2011, the Economic and Social Council took note of Commission on Narcotic Drugs resolution 54/10 of 25 March 2011 and Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice resolution 20/1 of 13 April 2011 and decided that:

Based on this stabilization, and following the adoption of Commission on Narcotic Drugs resolution 46/9 on securing assured and predictable funding for UNDCP, it is anticipated that sufficient general-purpose funds should be available in the future to allow for the extension of staff and other contractual commitments at least on an annual basis.

The discussion on ways to encourage host countries to make voluntary contributions to the regular operating costs of country and programme offices, with a view to improving the financial sustainability of the UNODC field network, pursuant to paragraph 20 of Commission on Narcotic Drugs resolution 54/10 and Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice resolution 20/1, was postponed to future meetings of the working group.
