As quoted in paragraph 2, the Advisory Committee, in its report (A/47/500, para. 53), requested that the Secretary-General explore the possibility of reaching agreements or arrangements with all Member States to enable the United Nations to pursue the prosecution of individuals for embezzlement of funds and to seek recovery of misappropriated funds.

13. With regard to the recovery of misappropriated funds from staff members and former staff members (A/48/572), the European Union insisted on the need to set up legal mechanisms to guarantee the rights of staff members, in particular the right of every individual to be presumed innocent.
١٣ - أما فيما يخص استعادة اﻷموال المختلسة من الموظفين ومن الموظفين السابقين (A/48/572) فإن الاتحاد اﻷوروبي يؤكد على ضرورة وضع آليات قانونية تضمن حقوق الموظفين وخاصة حق كل فرد في أن يعتبر بريئا الى أن يثبت غير ذلك.
