The memorandum of understanding concluded between UNIDO and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which spelt out the complementary roles of the two organizations in the field of investment promotion and of small and medium enterprise development, was a landmark agreement marking a new spirit of cooperation within the United Nations system.

The shared activities of the two organizations in the Cities Alliance have contributed significantly to improved collaboration between the two, for example, the active participation of the World Bank in the first session of the World Urban Forum, and the representation of UN-Habitat at the Urban Research Symposium hosted by the World Bank in December 2002 and again in December 2003.
ولقد أسهمت الأنشطة المشتركة للمنظمتين في تحالف المدن إسهاما كبيرا في تحسين التعاون بينهما. وكمثال لهذا التعاون، شارك البنك الدولي بنشاط في الدورة الأولى للمنتدى الحضري العالمي بينما مُثل موئل الأمم المتحدة في ندوة البحوث الحضرية التي استضافها البنك الدولي في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2002 وكذلك في كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2003.
