11. At its 5th and 6th meetings, on 11 and 12 June 1997, the Committee for Programme and Coordination considered the note by the Secretary-General on the reform of the United Nations and its impact on the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (E/1997/5).

17. At the 2nd meeting, the Council had before it a note by the Secretary-General on reform of the United Nations and its impact on the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (E/1997/5) and a draft decision (E/1997/L.5) submitted by the President and members of the Bureau.

At its 2nd plenary meeting, on 7 February 1997, the Economic and Social Council took note of the note by the Secretary-General on reform of the United Nations and its impact on the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean,E/1997/5. and decided to transmit it to the Committee for Programme and Coordination at its thirty-seventh session for consideration.

The conceptual framework for adapting the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) to changing circumstances, within the United Nations and in Latin America and the Caribbean, was outlined in a document entitled " Reform of the United Nations and its impact on ECLAC " (see LC/G.1899 (SES.26/4)).
