١٧ - وفي مجال حفـظ السلام، أنشأت عـدة بلدان أعضاء فـي اللجنة داخـل قواتها المسلحة وحــدات متخصصة لحفظ السلام بغية المشاركة علـى نحـو أكثـر نشاطا فـي عمليات حفــظ السـلام التـي يجـري الاضطلاع بها تحت إشراف اﻷمم المتحدة ومنظمة الوحدة اﻷفريقية.

The decision reflected the positions of the United Nations and OAU that development was inextricably linked to peace and democracy and that democratic structures, popular participation and human rights were fundamental to the process of development.
