The administering Powers should, inter alia, foster the awareness of the peoples of those Territories of their right to determine their political status in accordance with the options outlined in General Assembly resolution 1541 (XV). They also had a duty to safeguard the resources of the Territories, preserve their environment and refrain from militarizing them.
