In 1998, Viet Nam received the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, and is undertaking procedures related to inviting the Special Rapporteurs on the Right to Education and the Right to Healthcare and the Independent Expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty.

The Special Rapporteur, jointly with the Chairman-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on torture, sent an urgent appeal on 6 January 2000 concerning the detention of Syaifuddin Gani and Nazaruddin Ibrahim, two human rights lawyers, in the province of Aceh.

On 6 July 1999, the Special Rapporteur sent a joint urgent action to the Government of Bahrain with the Chairman-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers on the case of Mr. Sheik AlJamri, a 62-year-old religious scholar and former member of the National Assembly.

The arrest of 79 of these persons was considered arbitrary under the terms of opinion No. 9/2003 of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and according to reports from a variety of sources, the conditions in which several of them are being held are alarming from the physical and psychological point of view.

On 20 February 1996, the chairman of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers transmitted a joint urgent appeal to the Government concerning the arrest and incommunicado detention, since 14 February 1996, of Femi Falana, human rights activist and president of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers.

On 17 April 2000, the Special Rapporteur, together with the Chairman-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on torture, transmitted an urgent appeal to the Government concerning the arrest of Halidou Ouédraogo, Tolé Sagnon, Norbert Tiendrébéogo and Bénéwendé Sankara on 13 April 2000, as well as the arrest of Pierre Bidima and Etienne Traoré, along with 33 other people, on 10 April 2000.

On 30 June 2000, the Special Rapporteur transmitted a joint urgent appeal with the Chairman-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on torture regarding the arrest on 26 June 2000 of Ezzatollah Sahabi, a journalist and managing editor of Iran-e Farda, allegedly in connection with his participation in the conference in Berlin in April 2000.

18. During the period under consideration, the Cuban authorities have responded to the urgent appeals launched on 8 April 2003 by the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and on 19 May 2003 jointly by the Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the Special Rapporteur on the independence on judges and lawyers and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on human rights defenders.
18- واستجابت السلطات الكوبية، خلال الفترة قيد النظر، للنداء العاجل الذي وجهه الفريق العامل المعني بمسألة الاحتجاز التعسفي في 8 نيسان/أبريل 2003 وللنداء العاجل الموجه في 19 أيار/مايو 2003 بصورة مشتركة من المقرر الخاص المعني بالحق في حرية الرأي والتعبير، والمقرر الخاص المعني باستقلال القضاة والمحامين ومن الممثلة الخاصة للأمين العام المعنية بحالة المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان.

On 3 February 2006, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression raised concern over the arrests of seven Arab minority people in the city of Ahwaz in Khuzestan Province on 11 and 12 January 2006 after clashes between Iranian security forces and members of the Arab minority community.
وفي 3 شباط/فبراير 2006، عبر الفريق العامل المعني بمسألة الاحتجاز التعسفي والمقرر الخاص المعني بتعزيز وحماية الحق في حرية الرأي والتعبير عن قلقهما إزاء اعتقال سبعة أشخاص من الأقلية العربية في مدينة الأهواز بمقاطعة خوزستان يومي 11 و 12 كانون الثاني/يناير 2006 بعد اشتباكات بين قوات الأمن الإيرانية وأفراد من هذه الأقلية العربية.

The LLP noted with concern that despite the importance of a Joint Urgent Appeal, as of March 2007, the Government of Tonga had not supplied a response to the Special Rapporteur on Torture, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders.
10- وأشارت المنظمة بقلق إلى أنه على الرغم من أهمية النداء العاجل المشترك الذي تم توجيهه، فلم تكن حكومة تونغا قد أرسلت حتى آذار/مارس 2007، رداً إلى المقرر الخاص المعني بمسألة التعذيب والفريق العامل المعني بمسألة الاحتجاز التعسفي والممثلة الخاصة للأمين العام المعنية بحالة المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان(11).
