In pursuance of General Assembly resolution 53/77 T of 4 December 1998, on illicit traffic in small arms, the Department for Disarmament Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations regional centres for peace and disarmament in Latin America and the Caribbean and in Africa, convened workshops in June and August 1999, as part of the Secretary-General’s mandate to conduct broad-based consultations on illicit trafficking in small arms.
