XIII. Ensuring that deprivation of liberty is used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time
ثالث عشر- ضمان عدم استخدام التجريد من الحرية إلاَّ كتدبير يُلجأ إليه كملاذ أخير ولأقصر فترة زمنية ملائمة

The arrest, detention or imprisonment of a child may be used only as a measure of last resort (art. 37 (b)).
ولا يجوز اعتقال طفل أو احتجازه أو سجنه إلا في إطار تدبير يتخذ كملجأ أخير (المادة 37(ب)).

The State encourages the State party to give priority to protecting the natural family environment and ensure that removal from the family and placement in foster care or institutions is used only as a measure of last resort when in the best interests of the child.
