The fifth preambular paragraph takes note of the thirtieth anniversary on 14 February 1997 of the opening for signature of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, and the ninth recalls that the Council of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean adopted a resolution calling for the promotion of cooperation and consultations with other nuclear-weapon-free zones.

In Mexico, on 14 February 1997 we solemnly celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of the opening for signature of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, and noted that the denuclearization regime for Latin America and the Caribbean is practically completed, thus strengthening peace and regional stability.

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the opening for signature of the Treaty of Tlatelolco and under the co-sponsorship of the Government of Mexico, the General Secretariat of OPANAL convened an academic seminar, which was held on 14 and 15 February 2007, in Mexico, with the participation of renowned international speakers, who emphasized the importance of the Treaty of Tlatelolco.
45 - وبمناسبة الذكرى السنوية الأربعين لفتح باب التوقيع على معاهدة تلاتيلولكو، قامت الأمانة العامة للوكالة، برعاية مشتركة من حكومة المكسيك، بالدعوة إلى عقد حلقة دراسية أكاديمية نُظمت يومي 14 و 15 شباط/فبراير 2007 في المكسيك، وشاركت فيها شخصيات دولية بارزة أكدت أهمية معاهدة تلاتيلولكو.

46. On the occasion of the forty-first anniversary of the opening for signature of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, the General Secretariat of OPANAL organized a seminar on the subject " The Treaty of Tlatelolco " , which was held on 14 February 2008, with the participation of renowned experts in the field of nuclear disarmament and the peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
46 - وبمناسبة الذكرى السنوية الحادية والأربعين لفتح باب التوقيع على معاهدة تلاتيلولكو، نظمت الأمانة العامة للوكالة حلقة دراسية عن موضوع ' ' معاهدة تلاتيلولكو`` عُقدت في 14 شباط/فبراير 2008 وشارك فيها خبراء معروفون في ميدان نزع السلاح النووي والاستخدامات السلمية للتكنولوجيا النووية.

Mr. President, in this year marking the forty-fifth anniversary of the opening for signature of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, the Latin American and Caribbean countries remain committed to pursuing nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, following the example set when we created the first nuclear-weapon-free zone in a densely populated area of the planet.
