The regional action programme includes measures relating to combating desertification and/or mitigating the effects of drought in the following priority areas, as appropriate:

At the interregional level, the Afro-Asian Forum on Cooperation in Combating Desertification and/or mitigating the effects of drought had been held in August 1996 in Beijing, China, with the support of the Government of Japan and in cooperation with the Office of the Special Coordinator for Africa and Least Developed Countries of the Department for Policy Coordination and Sustainable Development and the interim secretariat of the Convention.

4. Through its review, the GoE should also identify in the national reports the ways and means of promoting know-how and technology transfer, in particular from the developed countries to the developing countries, for combating desertification and/or mitigating the effects of drought.
