The Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-ninth session requested the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance to update and expand the study on the issue of political platforms which promote or incite racial discrimination.

9. In the following paragraphs, the Special Rapporteur will examine the situation of political platforms which promote racial discrimination in a number of countries, including some visited by the Special Rapporteur or examined in his previous reports.

It defines " political platforms which promote or incite racial discrimination " as all political ideologies, discourses, programmes or strategies that advocate racial discrimination or racial hatred and xenophobia with the purpose of gaining political power and marginalizing certain groups in a given country.

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit to members of the General Assembly the study on the question of political platforms which promote or incite racial discrimination submitted by Doudou Diène, Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance pursuant to Assembly resolution 58/159.
