(p) Considering the adoption, where appropriate, of national legislation to protect the knowledge, innovations and practices of women in indigenous and local communities relating to traditional medicines, biodiversity and indigenous technologies;

Conferences and seminars were organized by several entities, including ECA, which, in collaboration with other United Nations agencies and programmes coordinated a seminar on best practices of women in peace-building and non-violent conflict resolution.

In the past year, UNIFEM, in collaboration with UNICEF, trained 30 Somali women in gender-sensitive issues of conflict resolution and facilitated the participation of three Somali women representatives of non-governmental organizations at a workshop on documenting the best practices of women in building peace and using non-violent means to resolve conflicts in Africa.

40. As a follow-up to previous meetings on peace-building held in Kampala, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Kigali, OAU, ECA and UNHCR and other United Nations agencies organized a regional workshop on best practices of women in peace-building and conflict resolution in November 1997.
