212. The international community should implement fully the appropriate actions identified in the Mid-term Global Review of the Progress towards the Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the 1990s concerning the external debt problems of those countries.

5. The Deputy to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD said that the Meeting was the main preparatory exercise for the Mid-term Global Review of Progress towards the Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the 1990s; this Programme of Action had been adopted by the Paris Conference five years ago.

10. Also at its closing plenary, on 6 October 1995, the Meeting adopted the texts introduced by the Chairman of the Committee of the Whole, constituting the Mid-Term Global Review of Progress towards the Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the 1990s.

Section II provides an overview of the recent economic performance of the least developed countries, and the policies and measures adopted by them in line with the recommendations of the Programme of Action and those of the Mid-term Global Review of Progress towards the Implementation of the Programme of Action,2 conducted in 1995.
