Secondly, the draft resolution welcomes the efforts made by the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference to promote cooperation between the two organizations in areas of common interest and to consider ways and means of enhancing the actual mechanisms of that cooperation.

The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 56/45 of 7 December 2001 in which the Assembly invited the Secretary-General to take the necessary steps, in consultation with the Secretary-General of the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF), to continue to promote cooperation between the two organizations.
