During the period under review, groups of up to 14 Rwandan journalists from broadcast and print media were brought to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda from Kigali to enable first-hand gathering of information and reporting directly on important events such as the delivery of judgements, Appeals Chamber sittings and the opening of new trials.

HRW indicated that, in April 2009, the government introduced a new media law, which placed unrealistic and burdensome restrictions on journalists, including extremely high registration fees for establishing a newspaper and levels of formal qualification which most Rwandan journalists did not have.

Under this partnership, the Tribunal tried to fill the information gap regarding its work by facilitating Rwandan journalists from the Office Rwandais de l'Information to broadcast on a daily basis from Arusha.
وسعت المحكمة في إطار هذه الشراكة إلى سد الثغرة في المعلومات فيما يتعلق بعملها، بأن سهلت للصحفيين الروانديين العاملين بالمكتب الإعلامي الرواندي أن يذيعوا الأخبار من أروشا يوميا.

In partnership with the Hirondelle Press Agency and the British Broadcasting Corporation, training programmes in ICTR court procedures, international criminal law, legal journalism and ethics have been organized for Rwandan journalists.
