Some delegations expressed the view that the Legal Subcommittee should cooperate more closely with the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee in order to address legal aspects of the advanced scientific and technological developments in outer space, with a view to promoting the development of binding international norms addressing critical issues such as space debris and the use of nuclear power sources in outer space.
29- ورأى بعض الوفود أنه ينبغي للجنة الفرعية أن تتعاون تعاوناً أوثق مع اللجنة الفرعية العلمية والتقنية من أجل معالجة الجوانب القانونية للتطورات العلمية والتكنولوجية المتقدمة في الفضاء الخارجي، بغية صوغ قواعد دولية ملزمة تتناول مسائل بالغة الأهمية، مثل الحطام الفضائي واستخدام مصادر القدرة النووية في الفضاء الخارجي.

Some delegations expressed the view that it was essential for the Legal Subcommittee to increase its interaction with the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee in order to promote the elaboration of binding international norms addressing matters relating to, inter alia, the use of nuclear power sources and space debris, considering the impact and association of those matters with regard to activities and life on the Earth.
24- وأعرب بعض الوفود عن رأي مفاده أن من الضروري أن تزيد اللجنة الفرعية القانونية تفاعلها مع اللجنة الفرعية العلمية والتقنية من أجل وضع معايير دولية مُلزِمة، تتناول مسائل تتعلّق، ضمن جملة أمور، باستخدام مصادر القدرة النووية والحطام الفضائي، نظرا إلى التأثير والارتباط الكبيرين لهذه القضايا فيما يتعلق بالأنشطة والحياة على الأرض.

The Secretary briefed the Meeting on the progress made in the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its Scientific and Technical Subcommittee in the implementation of the recommendations of the Third United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNISPACE III) and the status of the work of the 11 action teams that had been established by the Committee at its forty-fourth session, in 2001.
