20. The second meeting of experts on the question of traditional and new forms of mercenary activities had taken place in Geneva in May 2002 and its report would be submitted to the Commission on Human Rights.

In compliance with General Assembly resolution 56/232 and Commission on Human Rights resolution 2002/5, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights organized the second meeting of experts on the subject of mercenaries with the aim of considering the various forms of present-day mercenary activity and making a contribution to the formulation of an updated legal definition of the concept of mercenary.
